A few days ago I decided to try Building Balance | Beginner Yoga With Tara Stiles. This is SO NOT for beginners!

I couldn’t do this routine. As a matter of fact, I hurt myself within the first couple of minutes. Thank goodness I had Eric in the room to help me, because I almost took a fall trying it. We ended up doing some other balance work together, because the video was simply not at all intended for a beginner.

I am getting rather tired of trying routines only to find that they’re not actually intended for beginners. Sure, they’re good for people who are new to yoga, but they need to specify that you need to already be extremely fit and flexible with a good sense of balance. If you’re new to this kind of activity and you’re not fit, you’re in for a world of hurt and disappointment.

Luckily, I’m different from most people. I won’t let the frustration and my lack of personal ability stop me. I’m just going to find other ways to get where I need to be, then come back to the routines when I’m able to do them. However, most people would be rather dejected by the experiences I’ve had and they’d quit.

There really needs to be a set of videos somewhere that teaches people how to gain flexibility and balance so that they can become capable of yoga and other activities. Many people are in a position like mine, where they can’t touch their toes, their muscles are tight and they don’t have good balance. They need to acquire these abilities so that they can do more. So why isn’t anyone teaching that?

I wish I had a video camera so I could document what I’m going to be doing and how it works for me. Unfortunately I don’t, and I can’t justify the cost of buying one. i may have a look around and see if there are any videos that offer help, but so far I’ve never been able to find any. if you’re in a position like mine, I do recommend that you not let it get to you. Keep trying. Do what you can and keep moving forward. Your health and physical wellbeing are worth it.
