I’ve been doing the self-employed thing for quite a while and there is something that I keep seeing over and over. It’s a disturbing trend that needs to stop.

A lot of web content creators seem to think that they absolutely must create and post something 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It seems that the advice that is given very often is that you should always be working, all the time. Taking breaks and days off is looked down upon in some circles. Say what?!

Let’s face a few facts here people. Stress is one of the worst problems facing Americans today. Taking breaks and days off relieves stress. Stress causes a myriad of health problems not the least of which is insomnia. Lack of sleep is a detriment to any sort of creative work. Are you starting to see the logic here yet?

If you live for work, then you create stress which leads to a worse quality of work. So you should take time off to have better quality work.

Yes, you need to work to have an income, and money is important, but is it more important then your health? Is your desire to get more done overriding your desire to do better work that gains recognition and makes more money?

Take breaks, take a day or two off, get out there and live! If you aren’t living your life and enjoying it then what are you working for?
