I had my mind on reclaiming materials last night, and also on Game of Thrones, so it’s not surprising (to me at least) that I came up with a way to take leftover acrylic nails from a manicure kit and turn them into dragon scale jewelry. These actually look cooler in person. They were a royal pain in the rump, but I think it’s a cool idea, and one that I can probably improve upon with the rest of the nails in the box I have.
- All the materials. Yup, those are fake fingernails.
- Shaped and drilled with my Dremel and finished with a fine file.
- Painting! Nail polish for coat 1 and acrylic paint for coat 2.
- All the links have been beaded and formed with my pliers.
- Attaching all the pieces together.
I got so much paint on my hands trying to do those, I swear it looked like I’d been murdering smurfs. I need to come up with a better method next time. And yes, there will be a next time. I have quite a few more nails in that case, and they’re going to get used. I know that most people buy those aluminum pre-made dragon scales, but then everyone’s work looks the same. With the acrylic nails I can make different shapes and drill them in different places to make them unique. So remember, if you see acrylic nail dragon scales somewhere else, you saw them here first!
Well, I need to go get some more coffee in me and then get set up for working with plaster. I’m going to try to make some masks today. It’s too bad that I don’t have any dead bugs left, I made some cool masks way back when with real wasps and bees and ladybugs on them. As morbid as it sounds, people loved them and I sold them for a damn sweet price. Maybe nature will be nice and let me spot some.

No spoilers! It’s still on the DVR, I haven’t gotten to see it yet. And thank you about the earrings 🙂
