I came across a video on YouTube that was talking about something that happened in December of 2019. In internet time, that’s ancient news. To me though, it’s relevant. I think when we’re speaking out about what’s wrong in the world, there’s really no timeline for what’s viable to discuss.

The way I see it, old news or not, if you’re passionate about a topic, if you feel you have something to say about it, then say it. blog, tweet, vlog, whatever you do, and make your feelings known. If the thing you’re talking about hasn’t been resolved, then it’s still relevant.

For instance, the video I saw was talking about dress codes that were unfairly biased against a Satanist. That issue hasn’t been really resolved, and things like it still happen, so it’s valid to discuss. Some topics like racism, other forms of bigotry, and inequality, still haven’t gone away, so we can, and should, keep talking about them. Plus, there may be people, like you, who haven’t heard about that thing before, so you may very well be educating someone.

So I say, if it matters to you, necro that bitch, and to hell with what anyone says to you about it. Worst case scenario, someone might come along and tell you that the issue has, actually, been dealt with, and you can just amend whatever you had to say about it. At the very least, you’re going to be putting your personal opinion about that thing out there, and your viewpoint, your personal take on it, may be exactly what someone needs to hear. You might be addressing the topic in a way no one else has before, and that has value.

I’m a big advocate of people speaking up about things that are important to them. It doesn’t matter if your examples are old, if you have something to say, say it. We all need to speak up, especially right now. More than ever, the media and the Evangelicals are trying to tell us what to think, what to do, and who to be. Every last one of us needs to make our voices heard. If we don’t speak for ourselves, who do we think’s going to speak for us? You can’t wait for someone else to say something or do something. Just get out there and do it.

I know, it might seem scary to talk about certain things, but if you’re scared, it’s probably really important. If you absolutely have to, do it under a pseudonym or on an account no one can tie to the real you. We live in a time when our voices matter. Especially when we’re fighting against the majority. If you’re a minority in any way, whether it’s racially, religiously, or whatever it may be, you really need to speak up. Those of us who live in a way that’s not supported by the social majority or religious Right, need to get our thoughts out there.

When we put what we believe out there, when we stand up for what we believe, we’re encouraging others to do the same. We’re letting the world know we matter. So talk about what you want, when you want, as long as it matters to you. Someone’s life may be changed by your choice to share your thoughts.
