In the end, the one thing we’re all searching for is happiness. We may go after wealth or love or success or any number of other things, but really, the thing we’re trying to accomplish is being happy. I think though that sometimes we get so caught up in chasing the things we think will make us happier that we lost rack of all the things that already do make us happy.
Every once in a while, when I’m having a low day, I like to look around and just try to think of all the little things that make me happy. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised by all the things I can think of, and I remember how easy it could be for me to be happy, at least for a moment. If I wanted to, I could take the time to just experience some of those things right now, and feel so much better.
Here are some of those things:
Snuggling with the cat. Sometimes she’s just so loving and adorable in her upside-down purring that I can’t help but smile.
A cup of hot chocolate. It’s warm and sweet and rich and I can’t feel bad when I’m drinking it.
Looking at something I created. Sometimes it’s nice to admire my own work and be happy that somehow i managed to have the skill, patience and vision to pull it off.
Seeing animals outside. I love watching the birds or the squirrels or whatever creatures happen to find their way into our yard. Watching the squirrels almost always makes me smile.
Looking at images online. Sometimes I like to browse Pin boards of funny things, beautiful scenery, animals or whatever. There’s a lot of really amazing stuff out there.
Jokes. It can be hard to find good ones sometimes, but there’s nothing quite like a good laugh to raise your spirits.
So what kinds of little things make you happy? I’d love for you to share. maybe you’ll remind me, or others, of the wonder that’s around us and those simple ways we can make ourselves feel happier.

I definitely love Pinterest, and I badly need a cat! Now that my brother isn’t home as much (he’s terribly allergic), maybe I’ll eventually get one! 😛

Cats are awesome. Well, they can be. [grins] It stunned me the other day though when I realized I’ve owned more birds in my life than cats. I can remember 6 cats and 8 or 9 birds.
