It seems to happen at least once a week. Someone adds me to a FaceBook group without my permission. Sometimes I end up having my inbox flooded with messages, often not even in English. It’s incredibly annoying.
Just as a notice to everyone out there: Don’t add me to your FaceBook group. Ask me first. Let me choose. I don’t want to be added to a group when I don’t even know what it is or who’s in it. Oh yeah, and this is just good practice all around. Don’t add anyone to a group without having their permission first.
I really wish that FaceBook had an actual “invite” option for groups that would send the person a request to join. I think it’s totally wrong that people can add other people to a group without their knowledge or permission. It’s especially a problem because sometimes you get added to groups you have nothing to do with, and if groups are visible on your profile, it can make you look weird, or in some cases, really bad.
I’ve been added to tons of groups that I never would have even looked at on my own. I always leave the group and check the box to keep people from ever adding me back. And what really bugs me is that I don’t always get a notification in my email that I’ve been added. I have made a habit of checking the groups part of facebook from time to time because there will be things in there that I’m clueless about and need to unjoin.
I highly recommend that all FaceBook users send a private message to anyone you want to add to your group and ask them if they want to be a member instead of just adding them. Adding people to a group without permission is like someone signing you up for a mailing list without asking. You wouldn’t be happy about that, would you?
