So when did I become this silly, peter-pannish, devil-may-care kind of guy? I didn’t become anything, I just didn’t forget to play. I like to be goofy and silly, even when it irks my wife. Although frankly, my silliness has helped her grow too. I’m a grown man who decided long ago to never grow up in the classic sense. I didn’t want to become a stodgy, serious, stick in the mud. Why would anyone want to stop playing and having fun? Sounds pretty dumb to me.
I have welcomed my imagination to take me off to fantastic worlds, show me beautiful places, and let me see the silliness in supposed “adult” things. I grew up moving every 3 years, so I saw many many friends come and go. My imagination has never left me. My imagination became my best friend, and it joined my intellect in a beautiful partnership. I can wander off to beautiful vistas anytime I want to, merely by thinking about them. I never let my imagination die or go unused as many “adults” did. Your world and all the things in it began with imagination, never forget that.
I have grown older and more mature over the years, but I never grew up. My tastes have changed over the years, often including “adult” things like booze, boobs, and bombs. The thing is, I never became too serious. Whenever I get too serious about things, life gets boring and hard to tolerate. As a wise man once said “Don’t take life so seriously, I’ve never seen anyone get out alive”. Do you know anyone who got out alive? I look upon the world and it’s problems as a series of adult mistakes that even a child wouldn’t make. Do you really think that spending more money than what you have is something a child would do? Hell no they wouldn’t, they’d wonder how you spend what you don’t have (which IS rather fucking bizarre now that I think about it).
Embrace the silly a little every day and watch it transform your life. No, really. I’m actually being serious here. Sooner or later, you’ll start to see how silly the serious people are. Hopefully you can laugh at it instead of crying. I never quite know which to do.
Can you embrace the fun side of silly without being stupid? Can you help stop the grown-ups from wrecking this beautiful place? I challenge you to look deep inside and get to know your inner clown.
