This is a recipe for an all natural scrub to help reduce blackheads and firm the skin. It’s made from herbs and other basic ingredients. It has a wonderful smell and an interesting texture. If you’re looking for an alternative to strange chemical products that cost a small fortune, this might be just what you’re looking for.

You’ll Need:

1/4 cup bentonite or kaolin clay
1/4 cup ground herbs (equal parts ginseng, flax seed and peppermint leaf)
1/4 cup honey
1/2 tsp vitamin E
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Grind your herbs in a spice grinder. Make sure to get the ginseng into small pieces or it will be sharp when scrubbing.

Mix all ingredients together until fully combined. If the honey is cold you may need to microwave the mix for about 10 seconds to soften it. I had to warm my mix to get it to incorporate properly.

Place the finished mix into an airtight 1 cup container and store in a cool, dark place for 24-48 hours. It will start off looking like the photo to the left, then expand into a thick mousse-like consistency over time. It doubles in volume. When it has fully expanded it’s ready to use.

To use, simply scoop some of the product and apply to your face in small circles. It’s sticky, but it will spread as the warmth of your skin softens it. Allow it to sit on your face for 5-10 minutes. Then wash off with a gentle soap and warm water. For best results finish with a cool rinse. It will take a few uses to see results, but it will reduce pore clogging as well as firm and brighten the skin.
