A few days ago I got an idea for a way to add some content to the blog, and I’m currently working on getting it going. I’m going to release my latest book, Mundane Magic, as a blog series as I work on it.
You all know how much I love writing. I adore it. Unfortunately, when I decided I needed less stress in my life, it impacted my writing. I wrote a lot about what was wrong in the world and how people should change. I had a lot of posts about how much the world sucked. Writing that kind of stuff is cathartic in a sense, and it does express my opinions, but since I’m not focusing so much on all that’s wrong in the world, it’s kind of dried up my inspiration for writing. I was doing some personal blogging, but truth be told, my life is kind of boring right now. So, I was lost for how to add valuable and engaging content to the blog. Then I got the idea to share my book as I write it.
Sharing a book as it’s written isn’t exactly common, but it isn’t unheard of either. Some authors keep the book up until they finish it and then take it down, some take down parts, some never turn it into a print book and just keep it on the blog. I’m not sure what I’ll do in the end, I’ll figure that out when I get there. What I do know is that I think it would be interesting to share the work in progress and get people involved and interested. Even if I do decide to make a full book in the end, I know a lot of readers will still buy a copy, either to show their support, or so they can have it in an easier to read format.
I’m going to make a new category under Writing for the book, so it’ll be easy to find all the chapters. I’m planning to release a piece every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting next week. I already have 15 chapters done, so that’s five weeks right there. I’ve been working on more of it today, so I expect it to keep growing. If readers get active on the content, it may grow even more based on questions or comments that people post. I’ve actually considered adding a Q&A portion to the book if there’s enough interaction on the blog to warrant bringing people’s questions into the mix. (So if you comment, know that it might get used in the book. I’ll make it all anonymous though, so no one will know who asked what.)
I hope that people will enjoy this. I’m loving the book so far, and I’m excited about finishing it. It’s been sitting on a virtual shelf not getting worked on for far too long. (I first mentioned it here on the blog in November of 2014!) It’s a project that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, and I’m hoping that now is the right time. Keep your eyes peeled for the first section on Monday, June 27th!
