Oh man, this is becoming one hell of a project. We’re mid-way through the Ms right now, and trying to get through the rest as quickly as possible while still getting things right. Research is never as quick as you want it to be if you’re doing it right. We’re already on week 2 of the research, and not quite halfway through the alphabet. And this is just one of the many steps that need to be done to make this book complete.
I have discovered one thing during this. As much as people love and rave about Scott Cunningham’s herbal encyclopedia, it’s horrible. I’ve been looking over it and the amount of misleading and wrong entries in that book are mind-blowing. I’m very much of the belief that he was extremely high during the writing of it, and that his editor should have been fired on the spot. I don’t know how such a poorly researched book ever made it to the masses, much less became the go-to work on the subject of magical herbalism. Other authors since haven’t done much better.
I know that there are going to be people who hate my book simply due to the fact that I have the gall to contradict the all-mighty Cunningham, but I sincerely hope that the rest of the population is going to be grateful for all the time and work that I’m putting in to make this book accurate and easy to use. It’s not going to jive with books of the past, and that’s going to be much to the reader’s benefit. Most of what’s out there is relying on pre-1800s data and a lot of guesswork. I’m digging deep to find the right information.
At any rate, it’s a long, difficult process, but I want, as always, to create something that I can be proud of. I’ll be at it for a while longer, and I’ll keep you all updated.
