A little sidetrack from the deep thoughts of the day… Later today I’m going to be making my first ever batch of halaweh. Halaweh is an all-natural sugar based product for body waxing.

I’ve been switching to as many natural products as possible, and also some alternatives to body care methods I don’t like. Shaving is one of those. I have very sensitive skin and razors leave me with bumps and ingrown hairs. I did a bunch of research and found sugar waxing to be the most natural thing I could do at home.

It’s a simple recipe, just sugar, lemon juice and water, but apparently getting the stuff to cook right and come out useable takes practice. We’ll see how well I can do. Oddly enough, halaweh is not only one of the oldest hair removal methods, going back to ancient Egypt, it’s also considered a candy in some places. I guess you can’t get much more natural than something you could eat.

I know that waxing can be painful, but I’m mentally preparing for that. it’s been a long time since I waxed, but I need something better than razors, which are harsh and also insanely expensive. A pack of 5 razors is $15 here, but for $7 I got enough sugar and lemon to make several months worth of halaweh and sugar scrub. The price difference is awesome. it’ll be more time and work, but hopefully it will be worth it.

Tomorrow I’ll report in and let everyone know how it went. Hopefully I’ll be happy with it. Eric is going to be trying it too, if I get the batch cooked right. That way we’ll know how it works on both a man and a woman, and different body parts.
