People these days are so filled with hate. More hate than they even realize sometimes. That hate does no one any good. It’s not going to get them any closer to getting what they want or changing the problems within their life or their world.
Vegans hate people who eat meat. Meat eaters hate militant vegans. Muslims hate Americans. Christians hate all non-Christians. We hate people who have abused or hurt us. It goes on and on. What is all that hate good for? Is it making people change to be what you want? No. Is it bringing people closer together? No. Is it making you feel any better? No. All it does is hurt us and others.
I have been learning to let go of my hate. I used to have a lot of it. I hated my family for the abuse. I hated the men that abused me. I hated the teachers that treated me poorly and the counselor that ignored me. I hated Christians for all their hate. I hated vegans for being in everyone’s faces. I hated politicians, governments, small-minded people… So much hate. And what did it get me? Stress and pain and nowhere closer to anything good.
So I let it go. I have learned to look on other people with compassion and try to see things from their side. Now I feel sorry for all those broken people and look for ways to heal them rather than hating them. I can do more good that way, and I feel better. When you feel compassion and caring for all the damaged people in the world it does cause some sadness, but at least that can bring healing, hate cannot.
I believe we all need to let go of hate. We need to try to see things from other people’s viewpoint and try to heal the things that make us hate. Sometimes that healing is all within ourselves. Sometimes it is the other person. We are never without some fault, we all need to work to be better people.
Some may find the idea of letting their hate go very hard, but I’m going to do another article and try to explain how that can be accomplished.
