In The Good Witch’s Garden a man, Nick Chasen, comes along and claims that he actually owns Cassie’s home, Grey House. Cassie’s beau Jake, who’s also the police chief, is immediately distrustful of the man, even before he knows why Nick came to Middleton.
Every time Jake mentions his lack of trust or his ill feelings toward Chasen, Cassie tries to back him down. She tells him not to judge people, because they will show their true nature on their own. Cassie gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, but she also gives people plenty of rope to hang themselves with should they be the wrong kind of person.
Even though Chasen turns out to be a fraud, Cassie insisted all along that Jake learn to trust and allow the truth to come out on its own. She had a feeling right from the start, but she gave Nick Chasen numerous opportunities to do the right thing. She used that creative speaking of hers to let him know she was on to him, but gave him plenty of time to change. It was no one’s fault but his own that he stayed on the wrong track and got caught.
Sometimes our instincts tell us how to feel about people, and those instincts are right. However, there are times when we’re just wrong. We need to learn to give people a chance. Maybe they’ll be good, maybe they’ll be bad, but if we give them time and observe without judgement, we’ll get to see them show themselves for who they really are. Sometimes it may be for the worst, but often times we may be surprised in a very good way.
We don’t want people to make snap judgements about us, so we should never do it to others. Wouldn’t you want people to give you a chance to show who you really are? And maybe you were a certain way at one time, but you’re different now. You’d like people to give you the benefit of showing the person you’d become Extend that same courtesy to others.
