You can look great without wearing a ton of makeup
Ever hear the saying “less is more?” It’s especially true when it comes to makeup. The less you wear the more natural you’ll look. Let people see the real you at its best through minimal use of cosmetics.
I went to a Merle Norman once to get a free makeover with a friend. These were supposed to be professionals doing the make-overs. They put (I kid you not) five layers of product on my face and then put way too much makeup on top. I felt like I had a mask on, and looked like a clown. I was not impressed. The women behind the counter looked the same. It seems that many women feel a need to wear far too much makeup instead of embracing their natural beauty.
With the invention of Bare Minerals, some women began steering away from the clownish overdone makeup application, but some still don’t realize that less is better, and looking like yourself with just a little oomph is actually a good thing. The idea of makeup is to enhance how you look, not cover it up completely.
One of the biggest mistakes women make is in wearing too much foundation and concealer, often with other products underneath. Foundation really isn’t necessary for most people, and you should apply makeup to a clean face. There’s no need for layers of cleanser and moisturizer and toner. In addition to making your face look like a mask (I’m sure you’ve seen women with that awful concealer line around their jaw.), using too much foundation or concealer is really not good for your skin.
When I use concealer, I use a sensitive skin formula, and I only apply it where I really need it. I’ll put a drop under each eye to hide the dark circles I sometimes have from lack of sleep, and if I have a blemish, I’ll use a touch to cover that. I dust my face after with a light mineral powder, and that’s it. My face looks clean and natural, and at 37 I have no wrinkles and my skin is in great shape. After the minimal concealer and powder, I’ll use a little natural lip tint and maybe some mascara. If I’m going out on the town, I’ll use lipstick, a bit of eyeliner, and sometimes some eye shadow. I keep it simple, but I still get noticed.
Looking natural is a good thing. Many guys think too much makeup is slutty or just dumb. It’s easy to make yourself look great without piling on the cosmetics. Use makeup wisely to enhance your best features and hide the ones you’re not as fond of. Love your lips? Use a little gloss or lipstick to accentuate them. Use a little of the right color shadow and your eyes will really pop. Use a touch of blush or bronzer to create the illusion of shadow and attract the eye away from certain areas. You can do all of this without layering on the makeup.
