These hoops are sure to get some attention. The large hoop is made of red wire with red faceted beads. Gold-tone beads are used as spacers and red glass seed beads are wrapped around the larger beads. A faceted bead and two gold beads make up the dangle in the center of the loop. These have great sparkle and movement.

Ah, what joy there is when you can take a bad tutorial, some ugly beads, and make something that’s wonderful. I’m actually surprised at how much I like these earrings. I’m more than a little proud that I made these materials into something really attractive.

I got the idea for doing these from a tutorial showing how to wrap strands of small beads around larger beads. The earrings they made in the video were really ugly, and their technique seemed awkward, but I got inspired all the same. I took to my material bins and decided to give it a go.

Honestly, I used the red acrylic beads and red wire because it was something I’d never done before and I didn’t want to waste good materials on what might be a flop. It did take me some time to get the hang of the technique, especially since I basically had to figure it out on my own. I really had to mess with the gold beads to get them to stay between the red ones and not spin around to the inside of the ring. When I got to hoop two I was moving much faster and it all set exactly where I wanted it to. It took me 75 minutes to finish the pair. The dangle in the middle wasn’t part of my original plan, but I thought that big hoop looked so empty. I figured it would be a lot prettier with something dangling in the middle.

In the end, I looked at the pair, and I was really taken by how pretty they were. I would actually wear these if I looked good in red! I was so happy. I love it when things like that happen. I’ve actually made and sold a lot of things that were originally just a test of technique or materials. The Muses smile on me like that sometimes. *grins*
