Bill brought up an interesting concept in an early episode of True Blood: Vampires making up myths about themselves. If vampires are real, do you think they’d have done that over the years? It’s brilliant if you think about it.
If you make up stories about your weaknesses, traits and the like, that are untrue, you can use those falsities to throw people off track. As in Bill’s example of vampires having a reflection, whereas the myths state that they do not, thus allowing them to prove themselves to not be vampires by casting a reflection. It would be a wonderfully effective tactic, especially since humans, as a rule, tend to take what they hear as gospel, requiring it to be disproven to death before they change their minds.
If vampires are indeed real, and they have used this tactic, it means that we may not know half what we think we do about what they are and how they work. Personally, I like that thought, because it means my own theories about vampires could well be valid. I have questioned many of the widely held beliefs about vampires, their weaknesses, origins, and how they operate. If we have been fed centuries of disinformation, then no one knows for sure.
On a side note, do you think vampires are real? If so, do you think they should attempt to make themselves known and join modern culture openly? Comment and let me know what you think.
