Decorate your home and spend less money doing it
Whether you’re moving into a new home or trying to give a fresh look to an old one, home decorating can be expensive. These inexpensive home decorating ideas will help you have style without breaking the bank.
I’ve never had a lot of money, so I’ve had to get really creative to make the places I’ve lived look nice on a tight budget. There are lots of little tricks that you can use to give your home a new look without breaking the budget. Just get creative and have fun!
Do you have a piece of furniture that’s gotten old and ugly, or doesn’t match your other furniture? King-size sheets or bolts of fabric can be your best friend. Look for flat (not fitted) sheet sets on clearance, or fabric on sale at your craft or fabric store. You can drape and tuck the fabric to create an easy new look. Hold it on using decorative straight pins or upholstery screws. What’s even better than the new look is that fact that they can be swapped out at any time and they can be laundered easily.
Fake flowers can be a great way to spruce up a room. You can use them in vases, tied in bundles and hung on the wall or laid on a table, or if they have a flexible stem, they can even be used as curtain tie-backs or coiled around curtain rods or other items. Never decorate with real flowers. They’ll only die and need to be replaced. Silk flowers can be washed, stored and changed at any time as your mood and style change. Keep an eye on clearance bins at places like Big Lots and your local craft store for the best deals.
Mirrors can be a great way of making a room look bigger and giving it new flair. You can look for mirrors at your local superstore, yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores. You can paint and decorate the frames to suit your personal style. Move the mirrors around from time to time to change the look of the room.
Murals can be another way to change the look of a room. Get inexpensive acrylic craft paints and brushes, and get your creativity on. Paint a family portrait, flowers, scenery or anything you like. You can even let the whole family get in on it. I had a friend who dedicated one wall to guests. Anyone who came to visit was welcome to paint or draw something on the wall and sign it. It was really amazing, and totally unique. Depending on what is used to add the art to the walls, you can make it permanent, or be able to wash it off and start anew if you choose to.
There are lots of other inexpensive ways to decorate your home on a budget, but there few should get you started on the path to creativity and freedom of expression. When you get creative and hands-on with decorating your home, the only real limit is the extent of your imagination. Brainstorm with friends and family for even more ideas on how you can redecorate without breaking the bank.
