I keep going back and doing pieces for the Beautiful Like You Project, because it’s so important to me that people understand that they need to love themselves as they are. It’s not just about looks either. Yes, you should love how you look, but you should also love who you are as a person. No matter what society is trying to tell you to look or be like, you should be yourself and love what makes you the perfect, individual you.

You are so special, and I feel like I need to keep reminding you all of that. The media is so busy telling you to look and act a certain way, most of the population has no idea who they really are and they’re constantly unhappy because they’re trying to be something that they’re not. We are supposed to all be unique individuals, not clones. Nature made each one of us special for a reason. We’re each here to fulfill a purpose, and we were designed perfectly for whatever that is. If you’re trying to live or look like someone else, you’ll probably never live out your real purpose.

I want for each and every one of you to look inside yourselves and figure out who you really are, and learn to love that. Even if you’re flawed, that’s okay. You can always make changes and make yourself into the person you truly want to be. The trick is, you have to know who you are, and not be living from a place of trying to be what you think society wants or expects. You have your own wants and needs and dreams and quirks and abilities, and that’s perfect. When you’re truly you, then you’re going to be so much happier. If you’re trying to conform to what others want, you’re not.

Right now is the perfect time to start separating yourself from society’s influence and get down to being the real, authentic you. It may be hard, but you can do it. You can learn to think for yourself and figure out what it is you really want to be and what life you really want to live. You can fix the real flaws in yourself instead of wasting time on trying to fit some ideal. You can start aiming for your dreams and having meaningful relationships. You can start being truly happy as you, instead of being just okay or unhappy trying to be something else.

I love you all so much, I really want you to see how unique and special you are. If in your heart you’re a geek or a goth or a comedian or a silent thinker or a lover or a fighter, be that. Actually, forget the labels and just be you. No person will ever be just one thing if they’re true to themselves. You’ll be a hundred different things, all working together to make you who you’re meant to be. Stop trying to be anything other than what your soul says you should be. Find the real you.

Will ditching society’s standards and being yourself make life rocky for a while? Maybe, but you’ll be better off for it. And as more people learn to ignore the media and be themselves, it gets a little bit easier for everyone else to do it. I don’t like trends, but this is one worth starting. Start a trend of being an authentic person who knows who they are and loves it. Start a trend of breaking from the media and being an individual. You’ll be so much happier when you learn to love who you really are.
