Back in September I wrote about how I was going to make and use some halaweh sugar wax.

Well, I finally let the hair grow long enough to try using it. It was incredibly difficult to use, but I was fairly happy with the results. I figured with more practice I could really get the hang of using it and it would be a good thing. I decided that I would wait and see what happened when the hair grew back before I left a review of the process. This is the part where things go downhill.

My legs are now covered in small sore spots. Why? Because I had to use a pin to break the skin and pull out the ingrown hairs. A ridiculous amount of the hair that grew back grew in under the skin. My legs are a mess. It’s ugly and because I had to get the hairs out before they got infected, my legs are now very sore.

I exfoliate with sugar scrub twice a week and I use a body brush in the shower every day. I had actually gotten rid of all the ingrown hairs and for the first time in years my legs looked great. Now they look like they got run over by a briar bush. I have no idea how long it will take to get all the hairs out from under the skin and get the prick marks healed. I’m really not happy.

I thought halaweh would be a great, natural alternative to shaving, but I was wrong. Maybe it’s just my skin, or maybe this stuff just isn’t as good as people claim. i won’t ever be using it again. I guess I’m just going to have to deal with the electric razor and call it good.

I don’t know what to do with the remaining balls of halaweh I have in the fridge. I’d give them away but I’d hate for someone else to have the experience and blame it on something I gave them. It’s biodegradable, so I might just throw it out.
