Eric and I were coming back from getting sushi today and something funny happend.
Me: “When we do the steak, I want you to help me learn to cook it right. I really need to learn to focus more in the kitchen and in… Ooh look! Horses!”
Eric: “Yeah honey, help me focus more… Look! Horses!” [laughing] “Squirrel!”
Both: [hysterical laughter]
I don’t care who you are, that was funny. I mean, I just had to laugh. Here I am seriously talking about having more focus on learning things I’m not comfortable with and I get all distracted by the pretty horses we drive by. It’s funny.
Not too long ago I was making a cup of coffee and I put the carafe in the refrigerator and only realized it when the milk jug didn’t fit on the burner. I had to laugh.
When you do or say something silly, make a mistake or make a bit of a fool of yourself, you need to learn to laugh. Some people get so angry or feel so bad, it’s horrible. I used to be like that, and it really sucked. I would get so embarrassed or angry, or even cry. Then I learned to laugh, and life got a whole lot better. I also learned to let other people laugh. Sometimes, that stuff is just plain funny. They’re not laughing to hurt me, they’re laughing because it’s bloody hysterical.
learn to laugh at yourself and let people laugh with you. It just makes life easier. It’s more fun too.
*Bonus points to anyone who knows where the “Squirrel!” bit comes from.*
