I made the decision a long time ago to not inundate my readers with ads. Not using ads meant no ad profit, but it was for your privacy and reading pleasure. It also meant I didn't have to censor anything to keep advertisers happy. I knew it was a risk, but I hoped that viewers would appreciate it and be more likely to donate, understanding that writing is a job, and someone who works deserves to be paid. It didn't work out that way though, and the blog is now a financial drain, which is why I stopped writing. From this point forward, any writing I do, as well as updates about my other creative endeavors (such as my upcoming book and my art for RedBubble) will all be on Patreon.
