Now, don’t flip out, this isn’t a PSA from the Positivity Police. It’s just a little reminder.
The media likes to remind us of all the negative effects that stress and depression can have on our health. Of course, they’re simultaneously causing a lot of that stress, but that’s a topic for another post. It is true that stress and depression can make you sick. Therefore, it’s true that feeling good can make you healthy.
Now, we have a lot going on in our lives. Tragedy in the news, GMOs, hate crimes, bills, kids, illness, work and the list goes on. We can try to minimize our stresses, but some will always be there. Trying to reduce stress can actually be stressful!
So how about we just try to feel good sometimes? Watch a funny show or read some jokes. play with your pet. Take a relaxing bath or shower. Rub on some of your favorite lotion or cologne. Eat a piece of your favorite cake or candy. Go watch the local animal life. Just find something, anything that you can do to feel good.
Even if it’s just five minutes a day, fit it in. Take a few minutes to engage in something that makes you feel good, something that makes you just a little bit happy. If you can, do several little things a day. Like me, I take breaks outside on the deck rather than indoors, because seeing birds and squirrels and feeling the air makes me happy. I meditate in the shower. Sometimes I put on perfume or makeup for no reason. I do whatever little things I can to get some happy in my life.
When you add these little bits of happy to your life, you’ll be less stressed and feel good, because you’ll get a little bit healthier. keep the habit, and your body can begin to recover from the stress damage. And remember, a life of stress isn’t a life. You need to enjoy it, or why the heck are you living it? There’s more to life, be sure you’re experiencing some of it.
