It’s long been held that cooking is a “woman’s job”. Aren’t we supposed to be modern people? That idea is just outdated. Every person should know how to cook, and gender should have nothing to do with it.
It’s sad that many schools don’t have home-ec anymore. For many kids it was the only cooking experience they were likely to get. I believe that schools should keep home economics and give students the ability to learn some cooking basics. It should be a required course for both boys and girls.
I also think that parents should teach their kids how to cook. Get them involved in the kitchen activities as early as possible. Even if it’s just mixing with a spoon, or showing them the foods and telling them how cooking works. When they’re old enough, engage them in the food prep and begin teaching them the basics. By the time your child graduates high school, they should be able to feed themselves, at least in a basic way, without a microwave.
As for adults who can’t cook, it’s never too late to learn. You just have to want to. It’s not that hard to get the basic, then you’re open to a wonderful world of meal options. Not to mention, kids and adults who know how to cook often make healthier food and eating choices than people who depend on TV dinners and other instant foods.
Oh, and guys? Ladies love a man who can cook! It doesn’t make you gay or a sissy, it makes you more appealing. What woman wouldn’t want her man to be able to take the stress off her for a night and make a wonderful meal? There’s no excuse whatsoever for any man or woman to not know how to cook.
