People have quite a way of holding themselves back. In one breath they cry about all the things that they want for themselves and their lives, all the things and experiences they don’t have, and in the next breath they shoot down any hope they ever had of achieving those things.
I’m sure you’ve heard things like this, or maybe even said them yourself: “I want to be in love, but I’m too old to date.” “I want a new home, but I could never afford it.” “I want a better job, but I’m not educated enough to get it.” “I want to lose weight, but I don’t have the time or energy.” Those things and thousands more like them come out of people’s mouths every day.
We all need to stop the limiting self talk. If you want something, think of all the ways that you’re capable and can make it happen. Why would you waste your time and energy talking down about yourself and the possibilities available to you? Whatever you believe is going to be true, so if you think you can’t and you’ll never and it’s impossible, that’s what will be true. If you think you can and you’re ready and it’s possible, then that would be true.
I don’t like hearing people talk down about themselves or their future possibilities. I used to be completely guilty of that myself. I looked at my life and thought it could never change and I wasn’t good enough for anything. But you know what? I realized that I am amazing and full of talent and possibilities, and if I want something badly enough I can get the universe to line up and give it to me. I haven’t gotten everything yet, but I keep seeing evidence of what we can do if we just get in the right mindset.
Pay attention to the way you speak and the thoughts you have. When you catch that limiting talk, stop it. Start thinking and speaking as if everything is possible. You may not know how you’ll get the skill or the money or how things will line up to get what you want, but it’s a worthy use of your energy to begin convincing yourself that it not only can, but will happen.
