Too many times I have seen people beating their heads against the wall over this. Far too many times I hear people talk/whine/vent/rant about it.
Too many people out there seem to have the mistaken idea that inspiration can be put on a timetable. Oh, I don’t mean the people who depend on their inspiration to put food on the table. We know all too well about the fickle nature of our muse(s). I mean the ones who are deluded and paying the creative people. You know, the suits. The executives that seem to think they can hire “some creative types” to make piles of money.
I have to wonder when they last had to find inspiration on a deadline. Or maybe they should try creating something at the drop of a hat. Possibly they need to give a shot at creating something.
We are the creative people. We can invent and imagine entire worlds. We can see smells and feel color. We have a simple, sensitive mind. We know how a child feels on christmas, and we are the creators of your future.
We suffer from the agony of a lost idea, and the insomnia of the flood of ideas. We suddenly, inexplicably NEED to write something down while showering or eating. We know what it is to awaken in the middle of the night with eyes wide open exclaiming “I’ve Got it!”.
We need time away from the clocks and screens to imagine. We must refuel the muse and refill what you think is a neverending supply of funny. Inspiration flows like a river, but only when it is cared for. Dam that river up with negativity and stress at your peril. You need to keep your inspiration flowing.
Walk away from the clocks and the diatribes. Hit the snooze button on the hate and the anger that surrounds you. Find your muse and feed it well.
We are the creatives, we make your future. What do you want it to be made of? Clocks or creativity?
