I’ve been talking quite a bit lately about poetry and how writing helped me get through some of the really hard times in my life. I know that poetry can be that way for a lot of people. It’s a great way to just let the pain and hurt pour out.
Do any of you out there have (or did you have) creative outlets that helped you through hard times? I know there are so many ways that people express what they’re thinking and feeling. Some of the greatest art out there was done by people while they were feeling depressed, tormented or angry. Some excellent writing has come of it too.
I know there are a plethora of ways for a person to deal with their feelings or excise their demons constructively. What was/is yours? Do you still use that outlet? Did you ever (or will you ever) let the public see what came of those times via your creativity?
Another question: Do you find it hard to use that creative outlet when you’re not feeling low? I find it difficult to write poetry when I’m not suffering. maybe it’s just the mental connection, but it has been that way for a long time. There have been a few times that I was able to write from a place of strength and hope, and I loved that. It’s actually something I’m going to work on getting back.
