I often wonder why any of us cares so much what other people think. I know, we’re taught to try to impress others and fit in, but after a certain age, shouldn’t we know better? Shouldn’t we have learned to be ourselves and not give a rip about what other people think?

I have been working on this for quite a while myself. There’s no reason for me to care what people think. Making others approve of me won’t make me happier. I need to love myself. I need to enjoy who I am and what I do. If other people don’t like it, that’s their problem, not mine. They need to deal or change, not me.

I know some people fear for their jobs, and that’s why they care. For those people I’d suggest finding a different job if you can, where you will be accepted for who you are. Some people don’t want to be exiled by their families. Guess what, if they really loved you, they’d be there for you no matter what you do or who you are, even if they don’t agree or approve. The same goes for friends. Real friends aren’t going to want you to conform to their standards or put you down for being yourself. They’ll embrace you for your true self.

I say stop worrying so much about what other people think. their approval will not make you happier. You may think it will, but not being true to yourself will only make you miserable. Love who you are and let it shine, no matter what anyone else thinks.
