Basically, astral travel is when a part of your being (your spiritual self) leaves your body and moves around on the astral plane. The astral body is believed by some to be able to have experiences and encounter other astral bodies during this time.
Astral travel is often associated with near death experiences when a dying person believes that their spirit left their body. Many, however, believe that astral travel and astral projection can happen unwittingly in certain dream states, or that it can be a controlled experience during meditation.
Some believe that they have awoken from out-of-body experiences. Sometimes people believe that they have been contacted by someone else’s astral body. People sometimes spend years practicing meditation that they believe will allow them to disconnect from their physical body and travel freely in the astral plane where they can have experiences not possible with the physical self.
I believe that I have had some astral experiences. I have had dreams so vivid and real feeling that I can’t explain them any other way. It seemed as if I encountered other people and spoke to them. I have also had experiences of seeing a place I’d never been, and with such clarity that I was able to describe it to another person who was actually there. I’ve also had encounters so realistic that I awoke with bruises or a scent in my nose. I’m not sure if that’s part of astral travel or something else, but it was very intense.
I’ve tried to astral travel on purpose, but I don’t think I’ve been successful. I’m not sure how to really do it. I do sometimes think of trying again.
