Have you ever tried quinoa and found it to be bitter? That’s because there’s a natural protective coating on the seeds that makes them taste bad to animals. If you don’t get that off before you eat it, it’s pretty nasty. Cleaning quinoa can be a real pain. I used to do it with my hands, in a bowl, then run it bit by bit through a small sifter. My strainer, small though the holes may be, was too big and the seeds fell through. Recently, I came up with a far better way.
If you happen to have a French press (for making coffee) put the seeds into it, add some cold water, then put a whisk in and spin the handle between your palms to swirl the seeds. Pull out the whisk, put the plunger in and push down, then drain off the water. Do this a few times until the water is clear. You”l have clean, tasty quinoa in no time, and with no mess!
