It may not look like much, but that’s our new neighborhood in the photo. One of the homes on the left is going to be ours! After four months of hell trying to find a place, we finally did. It’s our #3 choice, but I think it’s going to be a good place to live.
It’s really too bad that we couldn’t get our #1 or #2 choices, but we couldn’t get high speed internet at either because they were so remote. Apparently that happens a lot out there in the vastness of Texas. Luckily, this location in Wichita Falls can get cable internet. With us working from home, that was really important. It should be really nice too, with three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a garden tub in the master bath and 1,820 square feet of living space. It’s under budget too, even though we have to pay $35 a month to have pets. Creel is off getting the cashier’s check for the deposit and first month’s rent, and it will go off in the mail today. Then, finally, we’ll be completely done with the crazy search for a new home.
I started packing yesterday, even though the deal wasn’t sealed yet. I just had a good feeling and decided to get started. My back isn’t too happy about the lifting of boxes, but I’m sure I’ll be okay. I certainly hope so, since this is just the beginning, with a lot more to come. Unfortunately, I can’t do too much until we get mom settled into a new place. She’s staying in Georgia, and her home search has been just as much of a nightmare as ours. I’m really hoping that the place she called yesterday will come through for her. It will make us all feel better to know that she has a safe place to go. I can tell you, I’ve been absolutely stunned at the condition they’ll let places in Macon get to. It’s horrible. Finding a clean, safe place for a senior woman has been a real challenge.
Thanks to the fundraiser and Bookoo, we’ve managed to get a great TV and microwave already. I think we have enough left from the donations to get a moving van, but my god those things are expensive! I just looked at U-Haul, and it was $765. Budget is $667. That’s a lot more than I was expecting. I’m pretty sure we can afford everything else we’re going to need, but it’ll be tight for a while. I’m hoping for more donations, but I’m not sure we’ll get any more. I am insanely grateful to the people who’ve donated though. Without them we wouldn’t have pulled this off. There aren’t enough thank yous in the world to say how much I appreciate those folks.
Well, that’s all for now. I’m really tired from all of this. I’m excited and hopeful, but yeah, kind of exhausted from it all. I can’t wait for it to be over and for us to be settled in our new home.
