Last night was a really good night. In addition to having a tasty bit of drink and watching How to Train Your Dragon 2 (which was really good), Eric and I did a little joint magical work. This is something that we only recently started doing, but we’re finding that it works better than we would have thought.

That photo there is what we used for our work. There are several stones (some you can’t see), a die, and a bit of alcohol as his part, and there are herbs and the candle with writing on it for my part. Between the two of us we created this wonderful magical thing to bring us our intentions, which are what’s written there in Hindi on the candle. Eric and I have rather different spiritual paths, and until a few weeks ago, we almost never tried to bring our practices together. A while back though, for no real reason, we decided to do some magical working together, and it felt really great. So last night we consciously brought our paths together to make one ritual spellworking. The energy coming off that plate is amazing!

I’m thrilled that not only have we become a better team when it comes to work (The Herbal Magic book project was great for both of us), we’re also learning to become a spiritual team. I’ve always wondered why it is that people can’t get along more when it comes to spirituality. When you can find the common ground and work together cooperatively, amazing things can happen. Unfortunately, a lot of people just don’t want to even try to play nice with people who have even slightly differing spiritual beliefs.

I remember years ago when Eric and I were in a Pagan group. (We’ve tried a few over the years) It was good for a while, but it didn’t take long for us to become kind of unpopular due to our beliefs not being like everyone else’s. One of our other friends had a similar problem, and he had different beliefs from either of us or them. We thought a group of Pagans would be open and understanding, but it turned out they were pretty rigid. We never took part in group rituals because they tended to always have a heavy Wiccan bent, and that wasn’t our scene. The organizers weren’t willing to incorporate other paths much. We really wanted to get in on the group energy, but they weren’t open to it.

Eric and I are learning that it is totally possible to take two very different spiritual paths with very different deities, and make them work together for a common goal. I actually wish we’d figured this out ages ago. I can just imagine how different our lives might be if we had been working as cooperatively in our spirituality as we do in other aspects of life. It’s quite a lesson, and I’m glad to be learning it. I hope that others out there will learn the same thing. Even if your paths are different, even if they feel totally opposite in some ways (as mine and Eric’s sometimes do), you can find ways to work together. We’ll still have our private spiritual time of course, but now we know that we can come together and really amp up the magical power and positive energy of some of our spellwork.

Me too. Coming together on the herbal books has just been opening doors for us. I can feel so many good things on their way. 🙂
