A wrote a post a while back about how hair on people isn’t gross, it’s just natural, but I saw a video recently that was really digging into the topic of hair on women in particular, and it got me to thinking. I really have never been able to understand what the big deal is.

I know that historically speaking, contrary to what many people think, the trend for women being hairless is neither an American construct nor a new one. It’s been around for a really long time. In Egypt they really went all the way, and would shave every part of their bodies, including their heads. Both men and women wore wigs and it was common for them to be completely hairless. So the idea has been around for ages, for both aesthetic and health reasons.

The thing that gets me though is the current “war” on hair. It’s no longer a choice so much as it is a socially enforced necessity for people, especially women, to shave, wax or otherwise remove as much of their body hair as possible. A woman who doesn’t have shaved legs and underarms at the very least, is considered disgusting. I don’t see the sense in that, and I think women need to take control of their bodies back in this and many other ways.

I have never been bothered by women who don’t shave, and I’ve known several. I’ve seen chicks with hairy pits and legs, and I never said anything about it. Sure, it’s not what you expect in today’s society, but it takes me all of five second to get over it and no longer give a shit. I’m talking to a person, and that’s what I care about. Whether they have hair on their bodies or not is about as concerning to me as the color of their eyes or skin. In other words, it doesn’t matter one little bit.

I am, however, bothered by the total lie the media sends out that having hair is unfeminine and unsanitary. Neither is true. Nature put hair on women’s bodies, which means there’s nothing wrong with it. Some have more or less than others, but if a female is genetically designed to have it, then it can’t be a detriment to their femininity. As for being unsanitary, that’s a load of crap. A totally waxed bare person can be dirty and stink, and a hairy as hell person can be clean and fresh. Hygiene and hair have almost nothing at all to do with one another.

I say if you want to quit shaving or shave less, do it! Screw what society and shallow-ass people have to say about it. It’s your body. Do what you want with it. I’ve quit shaving as much because it messes up my skin, and I frankly don’t give that much of a crap what anyone thinks about it. I’m a person, and that’s what others should focus on, not something as trivial as whether I have some stubble or not. People need to stop thinking about and caring about all this stupid, shallow, media-driven crap. It’s just hair, and doesn’t mean anything when it comes to what kind of person someone is.

Body hair is unsanitary and dirty? Weird…. what about the hair on your head? How does this fit with the current trend of men looking like a wookie? All I can do is shake my head somedays. That and wish I could relocate … to another planet.

Don’t you remember when I told you about that guy who commented on the video and said that he didn’t want a women with pubic hair because he didn’t want to go down on “piss, cum and crabs”? Apparently people today don’t know how to wash, or that guy dates some real skanks.

Actually, NASA is apparently working on a “warp engine” that can get us to the nearest Earth-like planet in only 2 years! I hope it turns out to be habitable, cause I’m gonna hitch a ride and stay!

But in response to the actual article, Briana, you hit the nail on the head. It’s all a scheme to get people to buy more hair removal and shaving products. If sales are down they have to find some ways to get people to become bigger consumers. It’s all a conspiracy I tell you! A CONSPIRACY!

        Briana Blair

It absolutely is. It’s all about getting us to buy by making us feel unhappy about how we naturally are. If we all woke the hell up 80% of the businesses on the planet would go out of business, and they don’t want that.

It should be a personal choice. I hate that the media has made it seem like you have no choice.
I love Janeanne. I’m going to have to go look up her newer stuff. that video isn’t working for me. she’s one of those women who tells it like it is. Too bad so many people peg her as a militant lesbian freak.

I like that she doesn’t pull any punches. But society has been taught to hate anyone that isn’t one of the sheeple.

That’s when I bring society my arsenal of obscenities and my two middle fingers..LOL. Sometimes speaking logically doesn’t work with society. You just have to curse them out, lol!

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately and which direction I want to go with it, so it’s interesting I came across this article. I have never understood why it’s such a big deal to people. If you want to shave, then do it. If you don’t, then don’t. It shouldn’t be up to other people what you do and don’t do. It doesn’t affect them at all. As for the smelly part, if someone is smelly, they’re smelly. It has nothing to do with whether they are hairy or not. It has more to do with how they take care of themselves (or don’t) or sometimes it may be a health issue. I get so tired of people constantly judging others instead of looking in the mirror and working on themselves.

      Briana Blair

I agree, people need to quit judging and deal with themselves.

For the last handful of months, I shave only if I want to, or if it itches. That’s it. If anyone gets in a tizzy over it, too bloody bad. It’s not something that should ever really be an issue.

        UserL

Excatly to all of those points. 🙂

        UserR

Body hair doesn’t bother me either way. It’s natural, just as you said, Bri 🙂

And completely agree with what you said, Lyn! XD

          🙂
