Fruit Food - Image: Public Domain, PixabayHave you ever been to an amazing buffet? Were you overwhelmed by the choices or did you smile broadly at the immense variety?

Life and religion are like that for me. I look out upon the choices laid before me and all I can do is smile. There are an infinite number of choices for us to pick from. You get to choose what you want to wear, where you want to live, who you want to be with and a vast array of other decisions that are ours alone to make. You can choose what gods you want to praise, and you can even choose not to choose if that’s your thing.

So why is it while we are at this utterly astounding buffet that other people try to dictate what we should or shouldn’t eat? If you were actually at a buffet, you might trust a friend to recommend something tasty, but you certainly wouldn’t let someone else fill your plate for you. If someone were to recommend a buffet item that you are allergic to, you’d know better than to eat it wouldn’t you? So why is it that for something as trivial as buffet food choices we can assert our own needs and yet at the buffet of life, we let others fill our plate for us?

It seems to me that a large part of the population has grown lazy and complacent. They are willing to let other people do their thinking and deciding for them. Like a small child, they have learned to let someone else fill their plate for them. They let others choose what they are allowed to eat, even if they will get sick when they eat it. They trust the judgement of another person over their own.

Please, for the love of all that is good and right, fill your OWN plate!
