Sex is wonderful, and it burns calories too!
Sex can be a wonderful thing, but did you know it can be good for your health too? Sexual activity burns calories and helps you lose weight.
Ah, sex: one of the most enjoyable activities you can share with another person. It’s fun and emotionally satisfying, but many don’t realize it’s also a great way to lose weight and stay in shape.Kathleen Doheny atWebMD says: “Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories or more. It may not sound like much, but it adds up: 42 half-hour sessions will burn 3,570 calories, more than enough to lose a pound. Doubling up, you could drop that pound in 21 hour-long sessions.”
I found from personal experience that sexual activity can seriously boost weight loss. I had been in a bad point of my life, suffering from depression, and I’d packed on 20+ pounds. Despite dieting, the weight wasn’t going away. Then I met someone, fell in love, and got physical. In six months all the extra weight was gone, even though I was eating more and getting out less. I was having a great time with someone I loved, and the pounds were melting away like magic. He also noticed some weight loss and serious improvement in muscle tone.
Now, you may be thinking “That’s got to be some vigorous sex to burn all those calories!” While upping the intensity does increase the calorie burn, sex of any kind is good. If you can kick it up a notch on a more regular basis, you’ll just get results faster. Of course, there are some less vigorous things that can increase the burn, like making love standing up. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the person on top will burn more calories than the one on the bottom, unless the bottom really gets into the action.
Another way you can burn a few extra calories and improve lovemaking at the same time is by adding Kegels to the mix. (This article from the Mayo Clinic explains what Kegels are and how to do them.) Kegels increase sexual pleasure, and they also take effort, which burns additional calories. Men greatly enjoy women who can perform Kegels during sex. Men can learn how to do them too, and it’s very enjoyable for the woman when he does.
Sex is an amazing multi-tasker. Not only are you connecting romantically and physically with your partner, you’re improving your immune system, bettering your mood, relieving pain and burning calories all at the same time. (The WebMD article mentioned above details some of the benefits.) It’s a fantastic activity with a plethora of health benefits.
Of course, sex is not something to be taken lightly. You shouldn’t go out and have sex just to lose weight. It’s important to always have safe sex, and whenever possible, maintain a single-partner relationship. Another benefit of staying with the same person is the fact that you’ll learn what makes each other purr in the bedroom, and the sex can become truly amazing. So be safe, have fun, and enjoy burning those calories!
