Moon Night Clouds Sky - Image: Public Domain, PixabayThat’s right, I love darkness. I love the serenity that comes from moonlight and the disappearance of the sun every day. I enjoy really gory horror movies and I think black is a good color for my clothing. I seriously dig so-called “evil” imagery and I collect little skull figures.

I know there are a lot of people out there who think that people like me are chronically morbid and melancholy. I am well aware of the “goth” and “emo” stereotypes that get thrown my way. I’m not either of them, if you care. Sometimes a love of darkness is just that.

Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that happy people don’t dress a certain way. The same applies for anything that actually makes you happy. You can be a decent, courteous, and loving person regardless of how you look.

Now wrap your mind around this. I loved Hostel, and yet I am against violence and hate. How is this possible you ask? The answer is this: Horror movies are a wonderful exploration of fantasy and magic and they are full of amazing works of art in the guise of special effects makeup. I see a horror movie as an art gallery in motion. The stories are fictional and I’m smart enough to know that. Frankly, the news upsets me more than the most gruesome things I have ever seen in a movie. I know the difference between fantasy and reality. I know how to indulge one without forgetting the other.

I love the dark, and I am happier because of that.
