Some of you out there are writers, many of you are not. So you may or may not have heard about the fact that Yahoo is closing their Contributor Network. That used to be Voices which used to be Associated Content. Basically, it was the place where they allowed people to write content and they paid us for it. I, along with many people I know, got our real start in writing at AC, and stuck with them through most of their changes. Unfortunately, they’ve made the decision to close at the end of the month.
I was happy to still be getting residual income from them even though I haven’t written there in a few years. It was nice to keep earning from my work. I’ve written at several other sites, but I could always count on some money coming from Yahoo every month. Now that’s coming to an end. I need every penny I can get my hands on, but I took the news better than I would have thought I could. I just went over, downloaded all my work, and said goodbye.
I made the mistake of trying another writing site when Persona Paper came along, but it had been my intention to quit writing sites and focus on making the blog awesome and controlling my own income and future. I gave up on Persona not long after I got there because they were having (and are still having) lots of issues and it just reminded me of what I was supposed to be doing. So when the axe fell with Yahoo, I knew I had to just collect my things and go.
What that means though, is that I have a lot of work ahead of me. I’ve already done a lot of it. I downloaded all the content to my hard drive and compared it to the documents I already had. I removed the duplicates. Then I uploaded everything I had to Google Drive and I’m comparing it to what’s on the blog. I’m deleting any duplicates. What’s left will go here on the blog. That’s a lot of articles and a lot of work.
I also pulled all the content from The Vampire’s Lair, which I’ll be closing. It only had 20 or so real articles and the rest was all just crap from when I had no idea how to run a blog. I’m amazed I never got sued for some of the stuff I had over there. At any rate, what little good content there was is coming here. Yes, vampire content here on the blog. What, did you forget that I was insanely eclectic? Did you forget this was the “one blog to rule them all?” Well, now you’ve been reminded.
Anyway… It’s been hard to have faith in the future of the blog, but I’m trying. In the good news department AdSense is up 127.3% vs. the last seven days and up 63.3% vs. the last 28. That’s good. It doesn’t equal a lot of money yet, but it’s good. Hopefully the reclaimed content from Bubblews and Yahoo and eHow and whatever else I have kicking around will help this blog grow quickly.
So I’m going to be busy organizing all my content and getting things up on the blog. You may or may not be able to tell which stuff is old and which stuff is new. I will keep writing new content, I can promise you that. I like writing. I really do. I want this blog to take off into the stratosphere and make me a good income. I know it’s possible. If you want to help, tell your friends and get people to sign up for the updates. You can share stuff on social networks too, that’s always good. Spread the word!
