You know I’m not a fan of the “rules” of how certain things are supposed to be done. When I received and email from Pinterest telling me that I qualify for a business account, I went out and looked into it. Not surprisingly, there were a lot of “rules” for how such an account should be used. Also no surprise, I immediately wondered if I cared about how other people are doing things.

Most people say that if you have a business account, you need a separate personal account, and words like diluting, silly, non-focused and a few others got used. One that made me laugh is when someone said “you don’t want people seeing the recipes you’re thinking of trying out.” Actually, for what I’m doing, I do want them to see recipes! I also want them to see the cute animals I’ve pinned and my inspirations too.

I’m trying to help people be better in any and every way possible, and everything I collect on Pinterest is how I facilitate happiness and growth in my own life. I think it’s great for other people to see that and share it. Sure, I love the idea that I could make a bunch more boards and post all my blog and Zazzle stuff on there too and not get in trouble, but I don’t think that any of my other content detracts from my “brand” or my message. Quite the contrary, I think it adds to it.

So, I’m going to switch to a business account. As far as I can tell, there’s nothing in the terms that say you can’t mix business and pleasure on one account, so that’s what I’m going to do. The only rules I care about are the ones on the TOS. Other people’s ideas of how something should or shouldn’t be used really don’t matter to me. I’ll read and learn, then decide for myself. No blind sheep following for me.

I have no idea if my way will work or not, but I’m going to try it. If it goes well, awesome. If not, I’ll tweak things. Right now I don’t want to be bothered with multiple accounts, and I think that all my boards will actually compliment each other and fit perfectly with my mission. Eric even agrees that keeping everything under one roof so to speak, is a good idea.

I actually hope that putting more of what I do on Pinterest will help my business grow and bring in more money. The less I have to worry about bills and all that, the more time and energy I have to do writing and other positive things. I like having less worry and more freedom. Of course, upgrading my account does mean that things are going to move and change on my Pinterest account.
