Well, I think the post I made yesterday said quite a bit about where I stand with my yoga, but today is the day for my weekly update, so here it is.
I’m not doing the video routines anymore for a while. They are just too hard. I’m not flexible enough and I don’t have good enough balance. Until I can get better at those things, these routines are only causing me pain and possible injury.
What I’ve been doing is a lot of stretching and working on my balance. I stand on one foot, paying close attention to that foot, and I lift the other off the floor and try to maintain balance. I sway and bend and change poses, and do that until I’m tired, then switch to the other side. I’m also staying stretched and working on being able to touch my toes and move my neck without my head going numb.
Someone suggested that I look into yoga for seniors, but I forgot. I need to see if I can find anything for that, as it might help. Many seniors are stiff and have trouble moving, so it might actually be a good place to start. In the meantime, I’m going to keep doing what I can. I really want to work up to being able to do real yoga, but I’m not there yet.
I really do think that they need to specify in these courses that they’re not actually for beginners, but for very fit people. There should be an introductory course for people with no flexibility or balance. I bet people could make some good money off that. Everyone has to start somewhere, and a lot of people would be interested in a true beginner course.
