If you remember, a while back I got an app for my tablet so that I could try doing yoga every day. Unfortunately, the moves were too advanced for me, and there was no option to build my own routines. I’ve been doing some stretching and such while I searched and searched for a REAL beginner routine that I would be able to do.
In preparation, because I believed there had to be some actual beginner routines out there, I went ahead and got myself a real yoga mat. I got a Bixle 1/2″ thick long mat on Amazon for only $20. It’s very soft and nice, and a serious improvement over the carpet in my bedroom, which doesn’t seem to have any padding under it and is scratchy as all get-out.
Today I hit gold on YouTube and found two trainers with real beginner routines. They explain the poses well and give you tips in case you can’t do the moves the way they do. They tell you how to use a pillow or books or modified poses until you get more flexible. One is Ekhart Yoga and the other is Tara Stiles. I made my own playlist for the routines I want to try.
I might start today, or tomorrow, it depends on how the day goes. I really want to get back into it, so I may try to find time today. I’m so glad that I finally found some routines that look possible for someone like me, who has no flexibility yet. They also have loads of more advanced routines for when I feel like I can handle that sort of thing. I wonder if I’ll ever get to the advanced poses, I swear some of those look downright scary!
Hopefully my mat and the new videos will enable me to get back into a daily yoga routine and get my body more flexible and in better shape. I’ll probably go back to documenting my progress and my feelings about the videos each day. I know, I’m all over the place with the things I post. [laughs] Oh well, it’s all about being a better person, if you look at it from the right angle. [grins]
