I was just sitting down to watch some of the stuff that we have on the DVR. We were going to watch Siberia, but instead of the show we expected, it was a Dateline special about the royal birth. What? You’re kidding me, right? Nope, I lost out on my TV show because a kid was born.
Seriously? Why does anyone even care? It’s not like it’s the first time a royal offspring has been born. That’s been happening for ages. Even that particular royal family has had several kids since the invention of television. And really, babies are born every day! If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. So why is this a television worthy event?
I really do not understand things like this. It’s not like it was immaculate conception or an alien or something even remotely interesting. It was a baby. Okay, so it came out of someone royal. Ooh. Aah. Yeah, I’m so utterly impressed. Not! I don’t understand why this had to be on television.
I’m constantly being made painfully aware of how messed up the world is, and this is yet another example. People’s lives are so boring and they’re so desperate to be part of something they think is important and special that they have to glom onto celebrities and act like what’s happening to them matters. It’s just a baby people! It’s not the first royal kid and it won’t be the last.
I can think of far better things to televise. Lets show people saving animals and other people from disasters, or show amazing feats of courage and compassion. Show some of the amazing inventions and life-changing discoveries of the world. Granted, a new life is way better than a lot of the other celebrity nonsense that gets put on television, but still, it’s not really worth televising.
