books-wikiI made a decision earlier this week to do something important. I’m going to watch less television and read more books. Books and reading engage different parts of the brain. You can learn new words, experience stories in a different way and much more. I haven’t read nearly enough over the last few years, and I want to work on that. I can’t read paperbacks with the small print anymore, but my family got me a generic e-reader where I can crank up the font size, so now I’m getting back into reading.

I think everyone should read books. All kinds of books too. Educational, funny, thought-provoking, entertaining… Really expand your mind. And like I said, it engages different parts of your brain than just staring at a television. I’m not giving up TV and movies, I’m just going to take some of what used to be “TV time” and turn it into “reading time”. It’s actually cool, I’m experiencing a lot through books. I even read Poe for the first time last night.

I’ve downloaded over 80 books that I intend to read, or at least try to read. Some of them are pretty intellectual, but I’m going to give them a shot. It’s kind of funny, I think I grabbed most of what Amazon had to offer for free with over 3 stars. I love that I can get free books though. I don’t have a lot to spend, so it gives me a way to get some reading in without costing me a fortune.
