I just got done with my daily 2 miles on the elliptical . When I first started, getting even one mile was hard. Not because of the effort, but because it was boring and I didn’t want to do it. I tried a few different things, and after a while I found that music was the key to getting it done.
We have Music Choice on our cable package. I tune in to the electronica channel before I start working out. Once I’m on the machine, I time my steps to match the beat of the music. It keeps me into what I’m doing, and it helps me keep an even pace so I’m not all jerky and risking injury. I’ve also noticed that most songs on that channel keep me stepping at 14-15 miles per hour, so I’m getting a really good workout .
Now I just need to find a way to get into using the weights on a regular basis. I can’t really do that to the beat of music because that would really cause injury.
How do you motivate yourself to stick with your workout plan? Any ideas on making weights more interesting and less boring? (Without buying anything.)
