I mentioned some time back that I decided not to make any resolutions for 2016. I did, however, decide that there were things that I was just going to do. January didn’t go entirely as planned, but I have been making progress, and I can already see February moving in the right direction.

One of the things that I knew I needed to this year was read more. When I was young, I devoured books like candy. I can scarcely remember all that I read, but I know I read a lot. At some point in the last handful of years, I stopped reading anything more than articles online. I have a hard time remembering the last full book I read, and that’s not a good thing. Everyone should read. They should read often, and read a variety of genres. It helps your mind in so many ways, and an intelligent person should be getting more mental nourishment than what the internet has to offer.

Tonight I started reading again, and I find myself with that ravenous nature that I once had for books. Luckily, the first two things I read were good. The third wasn’t done all that well, but already my mind had regained the ability to appreciate what the author had intended, and to see that with a little work, what they did could have been excellent. I know that there are going to be good books and bad in the selection I have downloaded, but I’m eager to see what my collection has to offer.

Because it had been so long since I read anything, I decided to organize my books by page length, and start with the shortest and work my way up. I may skip around later, but for now this seems a good plan. I do have a lot of short stories and free prequels, so I have things that I can take in quickly as I get my mind back into the love of reading. Eventually I’ll work my way up to the longer books, and hopefully be able to fully appreciate them.

It’s unfortunate that I can’t afford to buy books right now, but I have gathered quite a lot for free, and I do search the internet now and again for authors doing Kindle freebie promotions so I can get more. Generally, free books aren’t always of the best quality, but I have found some gems over the years. I do have more books than what are currently on my device, I have to have them delivered after I clear some space by reading what’s there now. Hopefully, by the time I finish them all, I’ll be able to afford more. My goal right now is to read at least 100 titles before the end of the year. That seems like a lot to me right now, but you never know, I may surpass that goal. It would be better to read than to watch so much television.

I’m going to share my reading list with all of you, just because. Maybe it will spark some of you to start reading if it’s not something you usually do, or get you to read more, or introduce you to something new. The list is coded as follows:

(number of pages) Title – Author [N for found on Nook] [K for found on Kindle] *some books have neither, these books seem to have disappeared off my device at the moment*
Green = good book, orange = okay book, red = bad book, uncolored = unread *”Bad” may mean I didn’t like it or that it was poorly written (grammar, ESL, etc.). Red also includes books I couldn’t bring myself to finish, usually because of poor storytelling.*
