I recently mentioned that I had come across a blog with a whole lot of great tips for helping your home crafting business. Well, one of the tips was to stage your photos and make them more interesting. It will be more work than what we’ve been doing, but I think that it may very well be worth the effort.

Over time the photos of my products have gotten better.

So now we’re going to try doing a bit more staging. I found an iron candle holder that I think will be great for hanging things from. It’ll be functional and interesting. I found a nice black velvet snap jewelry case and some pieces of clothing that I think will make good backdrop. I’m going to put things like beads or tools or other neat stuff in the image too. I don’t want too much, but I want them to be more engaging to look at.

Not a lot of people do dark backgrounds, but I want to. I get sick of the plain white. If we can pull it off I think it will look really nice and stand out in the crowd. I’m also going to make a .PSD with “BrianaDragon Creations” in the same font as my business cards and add it to all the product images so people will automatically associate the image with my brand.

As I said, this is going to be more work than what we’re doing now, but if it’ll make me stand out and bring in more sales, it’s worth it. If I can have memorable and even Pin-worthy images, it will really help business. Customers only have the photos to go by, so I need those photos to be really great. I can’t afford a fancy camera and lighting setup, but I know that it’s possible to do better with a little more effort.
