I got a bit of a late start today, and Bubblews activity seems slower than usual. I’m kind of tired, but this is my last post of the day, then I’m off to make some homemade tomato sauce.
As part of our healthy living plan, I decided that I could no longer abide by pasta sauce in a jar. We got a stick blender and I made my first batch of from-scratch sauce in years. Well, it’s all gone now and I need to make more since we’re planning on sausage ravioli one night this week and chipotle chicken another, both of which need sauce.
I’ve got to say, there’s nothing quite like homemade sauces. Well, all homemade food is better than processed, but it’s really nice to have from-scratch sauces too. We’re trying to not do this half-a$$ed, but go all the way whenever we can. We just figured out how to make cream soup from scratch. Tomato sauce is actually pretty easy.
All I do is take a bunch of tomatoes, diced and put them in a pot. Add some tomato paste and some spices and blend it. Then add more spices and leave them whole for a little texture. I make my base sauce without heavy seasoning, that way I can use it in any meal. sometimes tomato sauce is an ingredient, not just a topping. We can add more spices and change it up for individual meals. This makes it a lot more versatile than sauce from a jar.
