I was just sitting here listening to some music while I try to think of something to write about. “Hey Pretty” by POE came on. I really like that song, but I didn’t know any of her other songs. I went to YouTube and found “Haunted” and “Control” and they’re both good. I may have to get more of her music for my collection.
That got me to thinking about the music that’s coming out now. I don’t really like most of it. I don’t even know who’s popular anymore. No one is putting out good music. It’s mostly crappy remixes and samples with bad lyrics. I don’t know what happened to the music industry, but it seems to be less about the music and more about how people look and how likely it is that they’ll do stupid stuff that can be put into the tabloids.
I remember when music used to be good. I’ll admit, i prefer music from the 80’s and 90’s. There was some good stuff back then. I also liked it when artists wrote their own songs because they had meaning, rather than record companies hiring writers to write what they think will sell.
And oh my god, I get so irritated when people do bad covers. To me a cover should be an ode to the original. You sing it because it was awesome and you want to give your take on it. A few days ago i was in the car with dad.2 and I heard what I *thought* was going to be “Best I Ever Had” by Vertical Horizon, which I love. Instead, it was this godawful thing:
Gary Allan should never have done this.
Jessica Simpson managed to ruin “These Boots are Made for Walkin’”, a Nancy Sinatra classic:
which seems to basically be an excuse for Jessica to look and act like a drunk tramp. Britney Spears took a big dump on the great Rolling Stones hit “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” with this sad excuse to get nearly naked and jump around like she’s having a seisure:
Miley Cyrus also managed to kill Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”:
I could Understand Kurt Cobain, but Miley dear, the marble mouth does not work for you.
So what happened to music? Will we ever get back to songs with lyrics worth hearing and tunes that don’t sound like every other thing on the dial?
