Sometimes I think the reason people get tired of their jobs and lack motivation is because there really isn’t a good enough reward system. Sure, you get paid and maybe you can get a raise, but when you spend days, weeks and months on end working for those goals, it can get boring, and the reward stops being so awesome.
Imagine if work provided orgasms. Now you’d have some motivation to work! Instead of a lame sense of accomplishment after writing your ten articles for the day, you get a big *O*. You managed to crunch the numbers and get the company budget in order. *O!* You managed to make all the revisions and get your manuscript ready ahead of schedule. *Double O!*
Yeah, if there were rewards like that for working hard, I bet people would work harder. It would sure make it fun. Alas, things don’t work that way. Giving yourself an O after a job well done would be work, and therefore not a real reward. So how can we get better rewards out of our work so that we stay motivated to do more? How do we make trudging through annoying and mindless work more worth it?
