Have You Ever Owned a Book Too Bad to Finish?

wine-book-pixaI have been trying to do more reading lately to expand my mind and get me away from the Television. Luckily, most of the books I’ve gotten have been really good, or at least okay. Once in a while though, I come across a book so bad I can’t even finish it.

It’s really sad, especially if you spent money on it, to get a book that is so horribly written that you can’t even get through to the end of it. I haven’t had that happen too many times, but I hate it when it does happen.

One in recent memory was Rats by James Herbert. Herbert is supposed to be a great writer, and I’d read some of his books in high school and liked them. As an adult though, I can’t stand them. I managed to get through The Lair, which was book one, and it was hard to do. It just wasn’t that good. I picked up book two because I’d gotten the trilogy, and after just a few chapters I deleted it off my e-reader. It was just too bad to finish. I also deleted book three without ever even reading it.

I’m actually glad that I’m searching almost exclusively for free books to read right now. I got a couple that were just horrible, and I was glad I hadn’t paid for them. It’s not even personal opinion either, the writing, grammar and story just sucked completely. I can deal with a book I don’t like, but badly written is another story.

Have you ever gotten a book so bad you couldn’t finish it?
