Removing Costume Makeup Without Irritating Skin

woman-makeup-pixaI’ve always had trouble getting costume makeup off after Halloween. eyeliner pencils, lip liners and makeup glue are the worst. The liners stain your skin and it can take a lot of rubbing to get them off. There are makeup removers on the market, but they can be expensive and are often not gentle to your skin. Some people use rubbing alcohol, but that will dry your skin out. Some use Vaseline, but that’s greasy and clogs pores. Last year I got an idea, and it turns out it was a great one.

When you’re ready to clear off all your costume makeup, just put a dab of lotion onto a cotton ball and use that to remove the makeup. I have a nice, low-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) lotion, and I used that on a cotton ball to get off the makeup. It came off with no rubbing at all! I had to use a few cotton balls because I had full face makeup, but everything came off without a trace. Even better was the fact that my skin was soft, moisturized and smelled nice.

You can use this trick at times other than Halloween too. I use mineral makeup which is wonderful, but really stays put, especially the dark mineral shadows. The cotton ball and lotion works wonderfully for that, and also on days when I use a dark liner that stains my lips.
